WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT LICENCE TYPES?

Restricted Operator Licence

This type of licence allows the carriage of your own goods within the United Kingdom and across the European Community.

If you want to transport goods not owned by you then please make sure you choose one of the licences below.

The key advantages of the Restricted Operator Licence are; no requirement to employ a dedicated transport manager with CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence), the cash resources required to prove financial stability are set at a much lower threshold.

However, the restricted licence holder is required to maintain the same operating standards as demanded from the higher-tier categories. Consequently, it is advisable to retain the services of a specialist transport management consultant in either an ad-hoc or part-time capacity.

Standard Operator Licence

This type of licence allows the carriage of your own goods within the United Kingdom and across the European Community, and to operate on a ‘hire and reward’ basis (charging for the transport of goods not owned by you) within the UK only.

Typically, this type of licence is acquired by organisations engaged in general and specialised haulage activities, which provide a transportation services within the United Kingdom. Under current legislation, this type of licence does not confer Community Authorisation, meaning it does not permit the carriage of goods for hire and reward throughout the European Union.

International Operator Licence

This type of licence allows the carriage of your own goods within the United Kingdom and across the European Community, and to operate on a ‘hire and reward’ basis (charging for the transport of goods not owned by you) throughout Europe.

Typically, this type of licence is sought by organisations engaged in international and inter-modal transport activities across Europe and beyond.
